SMS & Text Messaging

How Frenz sends text messages and how people consent to receive them. Last updated July 20, 2026.

Frenz sends SMS text messages in only two categories. Every message body is a fixed template that identifies Frenz. We never send marketing or promotional texts, and we never include user-composed content. Message and data rates may apply; reply STOP to any message to opt out, or HELP for help.

1. Account verification passcodes

When someone signs up, they enter their own mobile number and tap Text me a code to receive a one-time passcode. Entering their own number and tapping the button is their consent to receive that single verification text. The screen states the consent inline:

“By tapping ‘Text me a code’, you agree to receive a one-time verification code by SMS from Frenz. Msg & data rates may apply.”

2. Personal invitations

A signed-in user invites a personal contact one-to-one — by tapping Invite next to a contact, or by entering a name and number under Add by phone number and tapping Send invite. The same one-to-one invite flow is used when a user adds one of their phone contacts to a group hangout (a Hangchat). Adding a contact to a private group sends no text. Before sending, the app tells the user exactly what will happen, and the recipient always gets opt-out instructions:

“We’ll text them a one-time invite from you. They can reply STOP to opt out.”

Invitations are user-initiated and one-to-one; re-invites to the same contact are limited to one per 24 hours. By sending an invite, the user confirms they personally know the recipient and have permission to text them.
